Raku, originating from 16th century Japan, is one of the most fascinating techniques within creative ceramics. RakuWorkshops.UK offers a memorable workshop experience for individual interest, social & special occasion, community and business groups.
Andy Mason, a potter with over 30 years of ceramics experience, combines his individual techniques with the great tradition of Raku, sharing his enthusiasm for this fascinating activity ~ a blend of art, alchemy, and surprise
Choose from a selection of beautifully handmade biscuit-fired pots. You’ll then be guided through creative glazing methods leading to dramatic ‘live’ kiln firings resulting in finished pots with the unique special effects of Raku. Andy will also introduce you to the fascinating history of Raku and its associations with the Japanese Tea Ceremony…and a Japanese style stir fry lunch on offer at each workshop ! It really is very accessible, allowing you to enjoy the event at your own level, from a beginners curiosity, or with a desire to express your artistic talent!

Testimony:
“I’ve recruited Andy’s Raku expertise for a number of events here at Seymour Road Studios and elsewhere. He has the practicalities down to a fine art but, for all the slickness of the operation, he also has the personal touch and brings warmth and enthusiasm as well as skills and experience. His workshops are one of our most popular calendar highlights and I can heartily recommend them.”
